WELCOME
Simi Youth Baseball (SYB) has been selected as the host field for the 2008 & 2009 Shetland and Pinto World Series.
This is the first time Simi Valley will host a World Series Tournament. Over 25 teams from around California will compete during the busy five-day event at SYB in July of 2008 & 2009.
“We are excited about hosting this event for the first time in Simi Valley and having the opportunity to show the rest of the state and other baseball leagues what a great city Simi Valley is and our first class baseball facilities here. Hosting the World Series would not be possible without the support, commitment and improvements to our complex that were made possible with the help of the Rancho Simi Parks and Recreation District and the City of Simi Valley,” said Mike Fine, President of SYB.
The Mayor of the City of Simi Valley, Paul Miller, welcomed the selection and commended Simi Youth Baseball on their successful bid to host the tournament, stating “The City congratulates Simi Youth Baseball, its organizers, and it volunteers. The opportunity to be a part of such a great tournament series provides tremendous benefits to our community, our businesses, and our youth. We look forward to having this competition come to our City.”
The bid to play host for this event was submitted by a committee from Simi Youth to PONY baseball (Protect Our Nation's Youth. “The economic impact of bringing the World Series and other baseball tournaments to Simi Valley is significant for the community – the 2008 World Series alone will have an estimated economic impact of over $500,000.00” said Fine. “Achievements like this come as a result of great partnerships and working with the community. Partnerships are an important foundation for Simi Youth Baseball and as a community, we’re reaping the benefits.”
“The Park District is extremely excited about the recent news of the Pony World Series,” stated Ed Hayduk, Assistant General Manager of the Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District. “We are proud of the quality of the Simi Youth Baseball Complex, and are committed to supporting the tournament in any way we can.”
PONY baseball was very pleased with the presentation put forward on behalf of Simi Valley by Simi Youth Baseball. “The World Series Tournament is the perfect opportunity to showcase our organization’s explosive growth since its founding over 45 years ago. Simi Youth is the ideal venue with its outstanding facilities, location and attractions. We’re thrilled to have Simi Valley host the World Series for several years to come,” said Fine.
What is clear is that Simi Valley residents and business leaders have come together. They have come together not to do what is in their interests, but what is in the City's interest. With the greatest baseball fans in the world, there is no doubt Simi Valley will put on a tremendous World Series Tournament, added Fine.
